Celebrating the life of
Berniece Perkins Beach
November 27, 1933 - December 13, 2025
Another angel got her wings. Mrs. Berniece Perkins Beach, 92, a native of Savannah, peacefully left this earth to join our heavenly father on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at her home on Wilmington Island, surrounded by her loved ones, her coffee, chocolate and books. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard “Buddy” Beach; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Beach; a son, David Beach; her parents, E. W. and Gladys Perkins; and a sister, Shirley Berger. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple for forty years before moving her membership to First Baptist Church of the Islands (Wilmington) in 1974 where she was a member of The Ladies Fellowship Sunday School class and a member of choir in the early years. She graduated from Commercial High School in 1952 with honors and graduated from Savannah Secretarial School. Her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. One of her greatest joys was everyone going on vacations together by taking cruises, traveling to visit national parks, museums, aquariums, churches, enjoyed many restaurants and seeing America’s open roads, from mountains to seashores and all her beauty. Another of her fondest memories was visiting France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, her native home Holland, England, cruising the Greek Isles, the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. But most of all her treasured memory was visiting and walking the Holy Land, where Jesus walked and lived. Berniece also loved the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. Her grandson Casey took her to the World Series in 2021, which was the icing on the cake for her adventures. Her granddaughter Brittany, her first grandchild, made her live again. Brittany gave her three beautiful great-grandchildren; they were her whole heart. She delighted in seeing them and hearing their laughter. Berniece was an avid reader, with a library of fifteen hundred books, and reading over five thousand in her lifetime. She also had an extensive library of music, including two original Enrico Caruso records. She loved the golden oldies, classical, and jazz. Berniece was a member of the board of the Savannah Jazz Association for many years, serving as secretary for approximately fifteen years and receiving the Jazz Volunteer of The Year, in 1995, 1997 and 2007. She was also a member of the Savannah Symphony Guild and always looked forward to volunteering in their annual fundraiser auction. Berniece was the Executive Director of Congregation B’nai B’rth Jacob Synagogue for thirty-eight years. She loved her time there, they were like family to her and she was very dedicated to them. She could type over one hundred words a minute. She typed so many bulletins, letters and documents that she had no fingerprints, now that’s doing some typing. She retired at 82 to spend more time with her family. Berniece will be remembered for her beautiful smile, big blue eyes, joyful spirit, her selflessness and the light she brough to everyone she encountered. Her legacy of kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire all those that knew her, she will forever be profoundly missed.
Berniece is survived by her daughter, Diane Beach; a granddaughter, Brittany Bowen Moore (Chris); a grandson, Casey Bowen (Megan); two great-granddaughters, Haley Bowen and Dalilah Moore; one great-grandson, Van Moore; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her most cherished friend from high school, Mrs. Julia Proctor for her friendship, compassion and love all through the years all the way until the end of her journey here on earth, they will meet again in Heaven. Also her dear friend from church Mrs. Carolyn Hawkins for her endearing love.
A Celebration of her life and graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Abbey on Wheaton Street on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
